"No, she's always quiet. We think maybe there's something wrong with her."
"Yes... or something very right. The quiet ones are the ones that change the universe, Luc Derardi. The loud ones only take the credit."
-- Luc Derardi and Londo in Babylon 5:"In the Beginning"

Birth Name: Inaya Rekhmire
Current Name: Claire Schaeffer, PhD
Magic Name: Amunet
Date of Birth: June 21, 1969
Place of Birth: Luxor, Egypt

American born Monique Collins met her husband, Marid Rekhmire, at a symposium on ancient cartography in New York City. She was courted and married, with many misgivings from her family, within one year of their initial meeting. By all outward appearances their marriage was a happy one. Marid brought his bride home to Luxor, Egypt where his family home was located and where he runs a small museum close to the ruins of Thebes.

To Monique's family's dismay she became more and more distanced from them. Her correspondences becoming few and far between. They felt that Marid was purposely isolating her from everyone that knew and loved her. Their marriage was far from ideal as Marid began a systematic campaign of neglect and abuse towards his bride. Monique became desperate to leave her husband but seemed to lack the will to actually fall through with that wish. When she found out she was pregnant Marid seemed to be exceptionally pleased and his treatment of his wife improved. She was lavished with attention and gifts.

The happiness Monique found during her pregnancy shattered upon the birth of her daughter, Inaya Rekhmire, on June 21, 1969. Marid became enraged at the betrayal of his first born being a mere girl. He beat his wife so severely that she had to stay an additional month in the hospital to recover. The physical and psychological abuse continued for the next five years until Monique's family managed to smuggle her away from Egypt and back to their home in Chesapeake City, Maryland.

She divorced her husband and started to rebuild her life at home. When Monique remarried a year later, her new husband Paul Schaeffer adopted Inaya giving her the new name Claire Schaeffer. Needless to say the rest of Claire's childhood was a marked improvement from her life in Egypt.

She graduated from Bohemia Manor High School with honors as valedictorian in 1987. The following years she worked on her varying degrees in college earning her PhD in archeology and a tenured position at the University of South Florida in 1995. In the spring of 2000 she managed to secure a position on the archeological team assigned to repair damage done to the tomb designated KV55. Vandals had done extensive damage to Smenkhkare's tomb in The Valley of the Kings.

Within a fortnight of her arrival in Egypt she ran into her father, Marid. He had never forgiven Monique for betraying him and ultimately divorcing him. Looking at this unwanted daughter of his he vowed to get even. While she was working with two of her colleagues on a particularly difficult piece of the tomb, Marid's hired hands attacked them.

When the authorities finally arrived they found one assistant dead the other critically wounded and Claire missing. She was discovered in a Saharan Bedouin encampment three months later in the southern portion of Libya, almost 600 miles from where she originally was. She seemed disoriented and did not know how she got there.

Paul Schaeffer realized shortly afterwards what she was going through, being one of the Awakened himself and, to Claire's amazement, showed her how to hone and refine her abilities.

He explained as much as he could about Mages and their ties to Atlantis. Stressing the need for discretion about revealing this knowledge to others who weren't Awakened. Sleepwalkers in general just were not ready for that. Other than her stepfather Claire did not run into another mage until she met Jason Saice in 2002.

She was at a symposium in Boston on Egyptian Culture and attended the same lecture on the life of ancient Egyptian Temple Priests. Over the years he cultivated her friendship and eventually convinced her to join the Mysterium order. She worked diligently and became well known in the surrounding area to others in her order as being very knowledgeable in her fields of study both mundane and that of the magus even attending Malta conference on Atlantis in July of 2003.

She also met other mages within her new home city of Tampa, keeping a low profile as to stay under the radar of the Seers who controlled the city. She became close friends with Star and eventually they moved in together to share the cost of living and pool their magi resources. All the while trying to convince her friend Jason to move into her city when it became apparent that the Seers had abandoned the city and that the Mysterium would have their work cut out for them to find all the hidden secrets they had left behind.

And so the journey continues onward…
